Java Divine Features the Art of Beth Reece Oct. 8 Art After Dark 2nd Friday

Friday, October 8 from 6 to 8 pm with free wine tasting and light appetizers at Java Divine.

Galaxie by Beth Reece

Beth Reece’s unconditional love for art started with the inspiration of a wonderful art teacher in high school in Millington, Tennessee. Some of her earliest paintings came from fond memories and time spent at her Grandmother’s home.
Beth received her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Graphic Design from the University of Memphis. She began her independent studies in Memphis with Melody Weintraub using watercolors. Watercolors held a subtlety that other mediums did not.

Watercolor landscapes and architectural renderings had been Beth’s focus. She continues her work with watercolor and colored pencil. In 2008, two of Beth's pieces were entered in the North Carolina State Fair Art Exhibition. Both of the pieces were juried into the Exhibition and one went on and placed 3rd in the professional artist category. This was her first submission in a competition arena.

In North Carolina, Beth has studied with Rhonda Myers reinforcing the classical master process. Rhonda's talent is inspirational. Beth currently works at the studio of Cary Fine Art under Rhonda’s mentorship.

An opportunity to study with Dan Nelson in Plenn Aire setting using acrylic paints was very helpful for Beth's work in this medium.

Studying with Master Painter Frank Covino was a turning point for Beth. Mr. Covino teaches oil painting in the style of the Old Masters, using oil verdaccio as an underpainting then applying skin tone and color glazes. This process creates a painting that will not fade with time.

Hospice by Beth Reece

Beth’s work is currently exhibited in the following places:
WakeMed Children’s Diabetes and Endocrinology Clinic in Raleigh, NC
Rey’s Restaurant, Cary, NC

Beth lives in Holly Springs, North Carolina. She is a wife, a mother of two teenage sons, and a gardener. Spending time on the tennis courts with friends is one of her passions. She proudly claims Memphis, Tennessee as her home.

"Watauga" by Jeanne Miller

Jeanne Miller grew up in western New York and thoroughly enjoyed having a state park for a backyard. Growing up, exploring creeks, trails and Lake Ontario were a daily occurrence in all seasons. She enjoyed playing outdoor sports and sketching nature scenes but found she loved warm weather to enjoy her hobbies even more.

St. Lawrence River by Jeanne Miller

Jeanne graduated from East Carolina University with a BFA in painting and a minor in Business Administration determined to use both sides of her brain. She took a hiatus from art while raising and homeschooling her children but within the last few years, God and her best friend rekindled her love for the outdoors and sketching. She has traveled throughout North Carolina with a sketchbook in her backpack.

Pigeon River by Jeanne Miller

Jeanne has lived in NC for twenty-three years and has called Fuquay Varina home for the last eight years, content with her fabulous four daughters and faithful seventeen-year old dog. Her various landscape paintings, animal portraits and sketches are currently on display for the month of September at Java Divine Café in Holly Springs.

France Close-Up
On Exhibit at Java Divine – August 2010
Opening Reception Friday, August 13, 6 - 8 PM

"France Close-Up” is a collection of photographs by Fuquay-Varina resident Susan Barnard. They were taken during trips she made to France in 2009 and 1992 with her husband, Thomas Hines. The images are of faces, scenes, structures and curiosities observed in Paris (Ile de France) and the regions of Normandy, Provence and the Languedoc. Specific locations include the city of Toulouse, towns of Giverney, Albi, and Auvillars, and small villages.
Susan is a retired academic librarian (North Carolina State and Kent State Universities) and amateur photographer whose grandmother was French. Tom is a retired professor of Comparative Literature, and author of books and articles on European philosophy, literature and art. Both love France - its people, language, landscapes, culture, food, and the enduring ideals of “Liberte, Egalite and Fraternite.”
